Department of Geology
To achieve the departmental strategic goal, the department has entered into Research Linkage Agreements
with a number of Institutions both within and outside the country. These include:
(i) Department of Fundamental Geology, University of Silesia, Poland, which as one of her departmental strategic goals has exploration and documentation of sources of energy alternative to the fossil hydrocarbons and to the firewood. The title of the research linkage between the two universities, Ahmadu Bello University and University of Silesia, reads “Save Nigeria Savanna” because the alternative sources of energy which will be documented in process of the joint research will release pressure on the firewood, thus helping to save Nigerian environment from degradation.
(ii) Geophysical Workstation and Seismic Processing Software. There are linkages with Chevron oil and Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE). Under these linkages, the geophysical workstation in the Department and the recently PTDF donated Seismic Processing Software and its license are been utilized. Similarly, both our postgraduate and undergraduate students and those of Physics department are been exposed to the operations of the Workstation during a series of tours.
(iii) The McGill University-ABU Zaria linkage (one of our staff, Mr. S.S. Magaji is presently doing his Ph.D. research there).
(iv) The Exxon-Mobil partnering linkage program for fieldwork.
(v) The linkage with National Water Institute, Mando, Kaduna.
(vi) The linkage with Nigerian Institute of Mining and Geosciences, Jos.
(vii) The linkage with Kano State University of Science and Technology (KUST), Wudil.
(viii) The linkage with Alliance for Earth Sciences, Engineering, and Development in Africa (AESEDA) Nigeria project in ABU Zaria, coordinated by Prof. A.A. Adefila.
